How to Install a Traffic Cam or Webcam

Emergency Notices

Installing a Webcam or Traffic Cam:

Installing a webcam or traffic cam is easy. Basically, you will need a webcam and possibly webcam software that automatically uploads to a server if you are using a low-end webcam like the ones for personal use. If you would like instructions on installing the traffic camera yourself, please see the information below. If you need help setting up a camera for use on our site, please contact us for free assistance in setting up your NH traffic cam or other type of outdoor New Hampshire, Maine, or Vermont based cam.

If you own a business, you will get free advertising for as long as you allow us to use the images you generate from your traffic or outdoor webcam. If you do not own a business we can donate the web page to a charity of your choice or we can create a family page for you, or just simply run the images on our site for you. All other ideas will be considered in exchange for setting up a traffic cam at your location.

How to Install a Webcam Yourself:

To install a webcam for use as a traffic cam, you will need the following:

  • A web camera

  • Webcam FTP upload software (may come with camera)

  • An extension cable if the computer is beyond 4-5 feet from the camera location.

  • Computer with windows 98 or higher, left on 24/7/365 if possible

  • OR, alternatively you can purchase an IP camera which is designed to be used for security. In most cases these IP cameras can be used to upload photos or video to a server/website.

Once you have everything required, follow instructions provided to install the camera and software.
